In a world where each government, institution, company, organization, and individual plays a positive contribution, the challenges are not insurmountable. Basing on numerous instruments and protocols that have been passed at the international level including the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, Paris Agreement and many others, as well as policies, laws and regulations that have been put in place at the national level, the prospects for change are high.
CRED seeks to cause change by promoting practices that cede power to local communities – often the victims of the twin problems of capitalism and climate change. We identify rights holders and their entitlements and corresponding duty bearers and their obligations, and work towards strengthening the capacities of rights holders to make their claims, and the duty bearers to meet their obligations. Our intervention strategy is through constructive, yet firm engagement of the authorities.
